The UCLA men's volleyball varsity team defeated its alumni Sunday in two out of three sets in Pauley Pavilion.

Several hundred Bruins from the past gathered to honor Coach Al Scates at his retirement party.

The varsity won 25-14, 26-28, 27-25 in a pre-arranged best-of-three match.

The former Bruins were very competitive, especially in the final two sets, engaging in several long rallies and making many spectacular digs. In fact, in set three the former greats held a 21-19 lead before the varsity rallied with an 8-4 run.

The Bruins will host the annual SAC Tournament Nov. 16-17 and admission is free.
