The UCLA men's volleyball team defeated visiting Winnipeg Friday night 3-0 in an exhibition match at Pauley Pavilion.

The Bruins won 30-18, 30-25, 31-29 in 88 minutes before 315 spectators.

Seniors Damien Scott and Nick Scheftic were the UCLA kill leaders. Scott slammed 16 kills (.483) and Scheftic added 10 (.364) and six total blocks. Scott also added an ace and five total blocks to lead both teams with 20.0 points. Senior setter Dennis Gonzalez recorded 40 set assists, three kills, an ace and one block assist, and sophomore libero Tony Ker recorded 11 digs.

In team statistics the Bruins hit .304 and limited the Wesmen to a hitting percentage of .152. At the net, UCLA out-blocked Winnipeg, 13.5-7.5.

Richard Wiebe and Ben Schellenberg led the Wesmen with 14 and 13 kills, respectively.

UCLA begins the 2006 men's volleyball season on the road, traveling to the Elephant Bar Classic, hosted by UCSB Jan. 6-7. After opening the MPSF season at UC Irvine on Jan. 13, the Bruins travel to the Outrigger Tournament, hosted by the University of Hawaii, Jan. 18-20.

The Bruins begin their home season Jan. 26 & 28 with a conference series against BYU.
