The 2013 season for UCLA men's volleyball begins Wed., Jan. 2 with an exhibition match against the University of Alberta in Pauley Pavilion at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Head Coach John Speraw begins his first season (11th overall) coaching at his alma mater after serving 10 years at UC Irvine and winning three NCAA titles. Speraw welcomes the return of nine lettermen and two starters to a UCLA team that was 22-8 last season. Junior outside hitter Gonzalo Quiroga, a Second-Team All-MPSF selection in 2012, is tops among those returnees. Junior Evan Mottram also returns as the Bruins' libero after leading the club in digs last season.

Alberta, 19-2 since late September, has not played since beating rival Mount Royal University twice more than a month ago. Wednesday's match is the first of four for Alberta on its California road swing.
