Metzger and Lambert Win AVP Seaside Event

Kevin Ker and U.S. Juniors win twice in Morocco.

July 9, 2007

Former UCLA All-American Stein Metzger and partner Mike Lambert won their third beach title together this season, outlasting Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers at Seaside Heights, NJ.

Metzger and Lambert won 23-21, 15-21, 15-13 in 90 minutes. The victory was the pair's third in six finals against Dalhausser and Rogers.

Eight attack errors and seven service miscues by Dalhausser provided the winning margin for Metzger-Lambert.

"It was a little uncharacteristic by them," said Metzger.

The victory gives the former UCLA standout 14 career AVP wins, eight with Lambert.

In other UCLA volleyball news, sophomore setter Kevin Ker started and the U.S. Junior National Team won in five games in the opening night of competition at the 2007 FIVB Men's Junior World Championship in Rabat, Morocco.

On July 7, the United States rallied from two games down to defeat Egypt 17-25, 26-28, 25-16, 25-22, 18-16.

In their second match on July 8, the U.S. defeated defending champion Russia, 28-26, 25-22, 29-27 to raise their pool play record to 2-0.

Earlier on July 9, Brazil defeated the United States, 22-25, 25-20, 18-25, 19-25. The U.S. is tied with Brazil in Pool B. Each team has a 2-1 record.
