Men's Volleyball Splits In Santa Barbara
The UCLA men's volleyball team split its first two matches Thursday on the opening day of competition in the 46th annual Santa Barbara Invitational.

Speraw welcomes the return of eight lettermen, including two starters, from last year's team that finished 22-8 under the legendary Al Scates, who retired on June 30 after 50 years at the helm. Also on the Bruins' roster are eight freshmen and five returning squad members.

"We're looking forward to starting our Fall season," said Speraw, who led UC Irvine to three NCAA titles in his 10 seasons as head coach. "It's been a learning experience for everyone these past few months, and now we're anxious to begin. This tournament will help us learn a lot about our team."

On Friday, UCLA meets UC Irvine on Court 2 at 5:30 p.m., followed by the match against USC.

On Saturday, the Bruins play CS Northridge on Court 2 at 8 a.m., followed by a 9:45 a.m. match against Pacific on Court 3. UCLA concludes its competition at 3 p.m. against Stanford on Court 3.

All matches are the best two-out-of-three sets.
