No. 2 UCLA Doubles Up No. 7 Pepperdine, 14-7

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team defeated No. 7 Pepperdine, 14-7, on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the SoCal Tournament at UC Santa Barbara. The Bruins were led by seniors Josh Samuels and Griffin White with four goals apiece.
With the win, the Bruins improved to 14-1 on the season while Pepperdine dropped to 7-3.
The Bruins jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the first period and pushed it to 10-3 by halftime. UCLA won the third period 3-2 to take a 13-5 lead into the final period. The Waves won the final period 2-1 to end the scoring at 14-7.
The Bruins also received two goals each from senior Chris Wendt and junior Aimone Barabino. Junior Paul Pickell and freshman Danny McClintick each got into the scoring column for the Bruins with one goal.
Senior Matt Rapacz played the entire game in goal for UCLA, registering 10 saves.
Matthew DeTrane was the only Wave to score more than one goal as he scored three against the Bruins. Bence Valics was credited with 6 stops for Pepperdine.
The Bruins return to the pool tomorrow for the semifinals of the SoCal Tournament against the hosts, sixth-ranked UC Santa Barbara, at Noon at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, Calif.
