No. 2 UCLA Advances With 18-5 Victory Over Air Force

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Daniel Lenhart scored four goals and Luka Bokavsek netted three to lead the No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team past Air Force, 18-5, in a first-round match of the SoCal Tournament at Joint Forces Training Base on Saturday morning.
UCLA (8-1) won its third consecutive game and recorded its second win over Air Force this season. The Bruins dispatched the Falcons, 21-4, in a first-round meeting at the NorCal Tournament two weeks ago.
Brett Hays, Bret Lathrope and Paul Reynolds each scored two goals in Saturday's 18-5 win, rounding out UCLA's list of multiple-goal scorers. In all, the Bruins received at least one goal from 10 players.
Air Force (3-7) received a team-leading two goals from Andrew Hamilton.
UCLA never trailed in Saturday's victory over Air Force, assuming a 1-0 lead on a goal from Lathrope with 6:48 to paly in the first quarter. The Falcons tied the contest, 1-1, on a 6-on-5 goal from Josh Stedman at the 6:15 mark in the opening period. The Bruins added three extra-man goals and led 6-2 after the first quarter.
UCLA pushed its advantage to six goals by the end of the first half, outscoring Air Force by a 4-2 margin in the second frame. The Bruins led 10-3 in the closing seconds before Air Force tallied its fourth goal of the match with one second to play in the second quarter.
The Bruins' defense allowed just one goal in the second half as the offense added eight more goals. UCLA outscored Air Force 3-1 in the third quarter and 5-0 in the final period.
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Mesesan allowed four goals and netted four saves in the first two quarters. Sophomore goalkeeper James Hartshorne limited Air Force to one goal in the final two quarters and recorded eight saves.
Air Force goalkeeper Danny Harold recorded seven saves in the first three quarters, before Michael Fish made one stop in the final period.
UCLA continues its SoCal Tournament schedule against No. 8 UC Santa Barbara (9-4) on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. The Bruins' three remaining games at the SoCal Tournament will be played at Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, Calif.
