No. 1 UCLA Men's Water Polo Wins, 9-4, at No. 11 UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 1 UCLA men's water polo team defeated No. 11 UC San Diego, 9-4, at the Tritons' Canyonview Pool in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon. Paul Reynolds and Griffin White each scored two goals to lead the Bruins.
UCLA (17-3) led throughout Sunday's match, as Lathrope scored the game's first goal 32 seconds into the first quarter. The Bruins built a 3-0 cushion after goals from Josh Samuels (3:08) and Daniel Lenhart (2:31).
UC San Diego (14-8) got on the board with a goal from Josh Stiling with 1:47 to play in the opening frame. UCLA led by a 3-1 margin after the first quarter.
The Bruins outscored UC San Diego, 2-1, in the second quarter. Reynolds scored his first of two goals on a 6-on-5 opportunity at 7:20. The Tritons recorded their second goal of the afternoon on a shot from John Butler at 6:59. UCLA secured a 5-2 cushion on White's goal with 29 seconds to play before halftime.
UCLA pushed its cushion to five goals by the end of the third quarter, leading 8-3. In the third period, the Bruins received goals from Reynolds (7:11), White (6:03) and Aimone Barabino (3:32). UC San Diego had one goal from Graham Saber with 6:44 left in the period.
Each team added one goal in the final period.
Matt Rapacz netted seven saves and allowed three goals, playing the first half and the first two minutes of the third quarter for UCLA. James Hartshorne did not allow any goals, playing the final six minutes of the third quarter and first two minutes of the final period. Andrew Mesesan played the game's final six minutes and was not credited with any saves.
UCLA returns to action at No. 7 Long Beach State with an MPSF match on Thursday evening. Game time at the 49ers' Campus Pool is slated for 7 p.m.
