No. 2 UCLA Falls to No. 3 California, 12-9

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team fell to No. 3 California, 12-9, in the semifinals of the 2012 MPSF Tournament at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins will face No. 4 Stanford in the third-place game tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Senior Josh Samuels and junior Chris Wendt led the Bruins with three goals apiece. The Bruins also got one goal each from senior Griffin White and sophomores Daniel Lenhart and Chris Fahlsing. Senior goalkeeper Matt Rapacz played all four quarters, registering five saves. California goalie, Jon Sibley, registered 11 saves in the cage for the Golden Bears. Matt Russell led California with three goals. Mason Cox, Giacomo Cupido and Hunter Gettelfinger each scored twice for the Golden Bears. California jumped on the Bruins to lead 3-0 at the start and 4-1 at the end of the first period. The Bruins would respond, but each time, the Golden Bears had an answer as UCLA never led and never got closer than two goals after the first period. The Bruins trailed 5-3 at halftime and 8-5 through three periods. The Bruins will face No. 4 Stanford tomorrow in the third-place game of the 2012 MPSF Tournament.
