UCLA Men's Water Polo Tabbed Fourth in MPSF Coaches' Poll

Bruins selected to finish behind USC, Stanford, California

Aug. 14, 2008

WOODLAND, Calif. - The UCLA men's water polo team has been selected fourth in the 2008 MPSF preseason coaches' poll, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced Thursday. The Bruins received 46 points in the preseason poll.

USC captured the top spot in the coaches' poll, collecting 63 votes and seven of nine first-place votes. Stanford was selected second with 53 votes (one first-place vote) and California was chosen to finish third, compiling 49 votes (one first-place vote).

Pepperdine, UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State were selected to finish fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. UC Irvine and Pacific rounded out of the MPSF's nine-team preseason coaches' poll.

UCLA returns 13 letterwinners after having registered a 21-7 overall mark in 2007. Led by veteran All-America goalkeeper Chay Lapin and the team's top two scorers from one year ago - junior Scott Davidson and senior Krsto Sbutega - the Bruins are poised to make a run for the program's ninth NCAA championship.
