The UCLA athletic department unveiled Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday, Sept. 26, prior to a men's water polo match against UC Irvine that night. The evening's events featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks from athletic director Dan Guerrero, associate head coach Adam Krikorian, senior associate athletic director Ken Weiner, assistant athletic director Shawn Heilbron and lead donor Tod Spieker.
An hour after the ceremony, the UCLA men's water polo team opened its new home with a 10-4, non-conference victory over UC Irvine. The aquatics facility hosted a capacity crowd of over 800 fans under the lights on UCLA's campus.
