No. 16/17 UCLA Victorious in Pac-12 Opener

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Atonye Nyingifa scored a season-high 18 points, leading five Bruins in double figures, to help No. 16 UCLA beat Oregon 89-80 Friday night in Matthew Knight Arena in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.
The Bruins led 50-32 at halftime and by as many as 26 points. The 50 points were the most scored by UCLA in any half this season while the 89 points were a season-high. UCLA held a double-digit lead for most of the game (34:04) and did so until Devyn Galland hit a three-pointer with eight seconds remaining in the game.
Freshman Nirra Fields scored 14 points and added six rebounds for UCLA, and Thea Lemberger chipped in 11 points and made her seventh-consecutive three-pointer before missing late in the game. Freshman Kari Korver also scored 11 points for the Bruins, making 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Markel Walker had 10 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for UCLA (10-2, 1-0).
Jillian Alleyne had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Ducks (2-11, 0-1). Ariel Thomas led the Ducks in scoring with 20 points. Galland added 11 points, and Danielle Love had 10 for Oregon.
UCLA shot 45.8 percent from the field for the game, while Oregon shot 42 percent. The Bruins scored 32 points off the Duck's 25 turnovers. The Bruins also held a 42-36 advantage on the boards.
UCLA returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 when it travels to Oregon State (6-7, 0-1), losers of its last four games. The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
