UCLA Wins Fourth Straight Pac-10 Game, 74-53 over Cal

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's basketball team continued its hot streak, winning its
fourth consecutive Pac-10 Conference game, 74-53 over California at Pauley
Pavilion in front of 1,581. UCLA has now won seven of its last eight games.
Both teams started off slowly in the first half, with UCLA mustering 30
points to Cal's 28. But the Bruins made a 12-2 run to start the second
half, capped by two consecutive baskets by Tawana Grimes to make the score
42-30. The Bruins extended that lead to 23 points, 61-38 at the 7:00 mark.
Then it was Cal's turn to cut the lead to 63-50 with a 12-2 run of its own,
but the Bruins held strong for a 74-53 win.
Bruin sophomore Erica Gomez led the Bruins with a season-high 14 points and
was one assist shy of a double-double with nine. Three other Bruins were in
double-figure scoring - Maylana Martin (Perris, CA) with 13, Marie Philman
(Huntington Beach, CA) with 12 and Carly Funicello (North Hills, CA) with a
season-high 12. Cal's Masa Radovic scored 14 points to lead the Golden
Bears.
The Bruins will next face Pac-10 powerhouse Stanford Sunday, Jan. 18 at 4
pm in Pauley Pavilion. The game will be broadcast live on KYPA 1230 am. Fox
Sports West will televise the game delayed at 8 pm.
