Box Score

Los Angeles, Calif. - The UCLA women's basketball team's second-half rally came up short as Oregon State held on to win 79-65 in front of 1,977 at Pauley Pavilion Saturday afternoon.

Down 40-29 at the half, UCLA came on strong in the second stanza, outscoring Oregon State 18-6 over the first six minutes, with Natalie Nakase's three-pointer knotting the score at 46-46. UCLA took its first lead, 53-52, at 8:51 on a pair of Kristee Porter free throws, but the Beavers went on a 15-5 run after that to reclaim the lead for good. Felicia Ragland, last season's Pac-10 Player of the Year, scored 11 points in that run, including three consecutive three-point shots to give the Beavers a 67-58 lead.

"Today was hard because we gave a great effort and did not come out with a win," said UCLA head coach Kathy Olivier. "Hats off to Oregon State because they played hard for 40 minutes and did not give us a break."

Porter led the Bruins with season-highs in points (20) and rebounds (seven). She also had three blocks and three steals. Nakase tied her career high with 11 points and had six assists and five rebounds. Shalada Allen also added 11 points in her first start of the season.

Ragland led all players with 32 points and an OSU record seven three-point field goals. Hollye Chapman recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. Leilani Estavan also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points.

The Bruins fall to 3-7, 0-2 in the Pac-10. Oregon State improves to 5-6, 1-1 in the conference. UCLA next plays at Stanford on Friday, Dec. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
