Three Bruins Named to Pac-12 All-Academic Team

Three Bruins have been selected to the 2012 Pac-12 Women's Basketball All-Academic team announced by Commissioner Larry Scott on Thursday.
Senior guard Rebekah Gardner, junior guard Mariah Williams and sophomore guard Thea Lemberger were each selected for the conference honorable mention All-Pac-12 Academic team which recognizes student-athletes who have posted at least a 3.0 grade point average in the classroom and are significant contributors on the court.
Gardner was also selected to the first-team All-Pac-12 squad after leading the team this season in scoring, with a 15.9 points per game average, and in steals, with 61. She was second with 30 three-pointers and third with a 6.4 rebounds per game mark (each average exceeded her previous season best). Gardner was the only player to start all 30 games and led the team in scoring 13 times. Her 127 games played tied her for third on the all-time school list and her 92 career three-point shots rank seventh on that UCLA list. She netted a career-high 24 points this past season against Tennessee (9-of-18 fg, 5-9 3fg).
Williams ranked third on the team with 84 assists. She started 26 straight games (28 total) and had a 4.6 points per game average. Her total of 31 steals rated fourth on the club.Williams tied a season high with six assists at Arizona State and produced at least four assists in 11 contests during the season. At Utah, she totaled a career-high 21 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, in a career-high 37 minutes.
Lemberger was earlier chosen to the honorable mention All-Pac-12 team. She averaged 12.0 points per contest, after hitting double digits in 11 of the last 13 games of the season and in 22 games overall. She finished the year first on the team with 40 three-pointers and 89 assists. Lemberger had at least one trey in 22 of her 30 contests and averaged 13.5 points per game during Pac-12 play, while producing 14 double-figure point games.
