UCLA's Doreena Campbell Invited to USA Basketball Trials

UCLA women's basketball player Doreena Campbell (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison HS) has accepted an invitation to attend the 2009 USA Women's Basketball World University Games National Team Trials May 14-17. Campbell, a second-team All-Pac-10 Conference honoree as a sophomore in 2008-09, led the Bruin team and ranked 11th in the Pac-10 in scoring average with a 12.9 points per game mark. She was also sixth in the conference in assists (3.7) and assist/turnover ratio (1.2). During her freshman campaign, she earned first-team Pac-10 All-Freshman honors and honorable mention All-Pac-10 acclaim while averaging 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.37 assists per game. The Trials roster includes 29 invitees who will contend for one of the 12 roster spots on the USA Basketball Women's University Games Team. Trials to select the finalists will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. The selected finalists will participate in the World University Games to be held July 1-11 in Belgrade, Serbia. The World University Games is a multi-sport competition organized by the International University Sports Federation and is held every other year. Three previous Bruins have participated in the World University Games competition - Lisa Willis (2005 gold medalist), Denise Curry (1981 silver medalist) and Ann Meyers (1977 silver medalist).
