Michelle Greco Cleared For Full Participation On UCLA Basketball Team

Pac-10's leading scorer in 2000-01 will return for the upcoming season.

Sept. 23, 2002

Michelle Greco has been cleared by the Bruins' medical staff to resume full participation on the UCLA women's basketball team, effective immediately. The team will begin pre-season conditioning on October 1st and have its first practice on October 12th. Greco, the Pac-10's leading scorer in the 2000-01 season with a 19.9 scoring mark, was granted a medical hardship waiver in June by the Pacific 10 Conference Council and will play for coach Kathy Olivier's UCLA Bruins this season as a redshirt senior.

The 5-9 guard averaged 23.6 points per game during the first five games of the 2001-02 season before sitting out the rest of UCLA's contests last season. The UCLA medical staff recommended that Greco should not participate in basketball competition for the remainder of the season due to her history of mild concussions.

Over the last nine months, Greco has been limited to non-contact aspects of team practice. The medical staff, after evaluating recent tests, has cleared Greco to return immediately to full participation in all aspects of practice and to play in games.

"I have learned a lot about the game of basketball and myself during my time on the sidelines," said Greco. "I can't wait to get back and resume my regular basketball life while taking part in games and scrimmages. I look forward to joining my teammates in preparation for my senior season."
