Nov. 15, 2001

UCLA head women's basketball coach Kathy Olivier announced today the signing of guard Ortal Oren to a national letter-of-intent. She will enter UCLA in the fall of 2002 as a freshman and become a member of the 2002-2003 Bruin team.

Oren, a 5-9 guard-forward is from Kiriat-Sharet High School in Israel. She lives in Rishon-Lezion, Israel. Last year, she led her high school team to the Israeli Championship and was the leading scorer in the title game. She is also a member of the Israeli Junior National team. Oren averaged 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists per game last season.

"Ortal is a highly skilled player with international experience," said Olivier. "I expect her to be able to come right in and be able to contribute. Ortal's signing, in addition to that of the three players we announced yesterday, give us an outstanding overall class of recruits. It is even possible we might be able to add one or two more to the group."

On November 14, UCLA announced the signing of three players - Nikki Blue, 5-8 guard from West High in Bakersfield, CA, Emma Tautolo, 6-2 forward from Moreno Valley, CA High, Lisa Willis, 5-9 guard-forward from Narbonne High in Harbor City, CA.
