Inside UCLA Women's Hoops
Note: Gennifer Arranaga is a senior guard on the UCLA Women's Basketball team. Last season, she played in all 29 games, averaging 5.4 points per game, with a season-high of 13 points against Northwestern State. Arranaga was selected to the All-Tournament team at the Lady Rebel Shootout after that game and a 12-point performance against UNLV. In 2002, she appeared in 29 games with three starts and finished the season by averaging 17 points in her last four games, including a career-high 21 points against Stanford in the regular season finale. July 22, 2003 Well summer is half-way over. As usual, I've been keeping busy. I have to say, it's been a hot summer so far, and I've already made many trips to the beach, working on my summer tan! I'm excited to say that my teammates, Sissy Pickett and Jamila Veasley, and I have found our apartment! After a lot of worry and stress, we finally found a great 3 bedroom to stay in, and I can't wait to move in! I'm glad I have my summer job at the Student Health Center at UCLA because the apartment wasn't cheap. On top of working, I am also attending summer school. Classes are good, my teacher is very funny, and I'm understanding the material. I'm taking a class on psychological statistics, which involves some math, not my favorite subject. As for basketball, we just finished our overnight camp, definitely hard work. If I was tired after the camp, I know the campers must be exhausted. Regardless, we had a lot of fun, and I'm sure the campers also enjoyed themselves. I've been working out all summer with some of my teammates, along with girls from other sports. Everyone has been doing well, and we improve every week. Since our schedules are so different, we don't always get to play together, and many of us are in the Say No basketball league over at USC. I have been playing in the Wooden Center with the guys, trying to keep in basketball shape. I can't wait until our freshmen arrive and we all can begin playing as a team! I can't believe this will be my last summer. Four years went by fast! I'm excited for this next year; we have some amazing players on our team. I still have half the summer to go, so lets hope for more good weather, good basketball, and good times! Gennifer Arranaga
