Inside UCLA Women's Hoops
Note: Sissy Pickett is a junior center on the UCLA Women's Basketball team. Last season, she played in 12 games, averaging 2.1 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. As a freshman, she scored a career-high 13 points in the home win over Washington State and also recorded a career-best six rebounds at Arizona while also scoring seven points. At 6-7, Pickett is the tallest player in UCLA history. July 28, 2003 Hi all! It is my sixth week of summer session A - finals week for those who are taking summer classes. I am taking two history classes each session, which is keeping me pretty busy. But I really like history, so it's not nearly as bad as it seems. I am try to get all the hard classes out of the way so that once season gets here, my schedule could be less difficult and I could focus more on basketball and not stress over hard classes. UCLA is really fun during the summer time! It is full of athletes who are here to take classes, work camps, and work out. This summer I got the chance to live with two of last year's freshmen, Emma and Julia (Ju-Ju). This was a learning experience because I hadn't really gotten to know them as well during the school year. They are some interesting and cool people. First off, neither one of them knows how to cook, except Ju-Ju's Tacos. So I did most of the cooking, which was fun for me because I got to learn how to cook more things (but my favorite is baked chicken). I also got to spend time with Jamila and Gen because along with myself, Emma, and Ju-Ju, they were the only ones who took summer school and did workouts as a group. Gen, Jamila and I are going to move in together in August, and I'll be getting my own bedroom!!! I am really excited about that, and I love Gen and Jamila, so I know we will have a lot of fun. The most fun thing I have done this summer is visit Newport Beach on 4th of July with some ex-players Melissa and Natalie. We had a lot of fun tanning at the beach and playing 3 flies up (a football game). Other than that, I have just been working camps with teammates and working camps at the Wooden Center with junior high school kids from all over the world. Both were a lot of fun. I love basketball and teaching; it is something that I really enjoy. Teaching helps me learn more and more about basketball, some of the little things that I have never thought about doing. Well, I think that is about it!! I really hope that some of y'all get to come to some of the games next season. All of us are working really hard on our strength and our games, so we hope that all of y'all will be impressed by the outcome of next season. God Bless! SISSY PICKETT #54
