Note: Melissa is a senior guard and two-year letterwinner on the UCLA women's basketball team. A walk-on who joined the squad in 2000-01, Maurin has impressed coaches with her intensity and attitude. She has seen action in 12 games during her career and posted a career-best six points against Washington State in 2001. A good all-around athlete, she was a four-year letterwinner at Don Lugo High School and earned all-league honors three times. She served as team captain for three years and led her team to the Baseline League title in 1997-98 and 1998-99. Maurin was also an all-league honoree in soccer as a junior and senior.

Right now it is summer time, usually a time for fun in the sun and summer loves - oh yeah - and definitely basketball. However, this summer has been nothing but downright business. This is my last summer before I graduate next June, and I want to be sure to be prepared for nothing but the best this upcoming year. Therefore, I have been spending my summer doing early-morning weight training and conditioning with my hard-working and dedicated teammates. Four days a week you can find us on the track or in the weight room with Coach Tracy. We find our motivation to wake up early in our summer mornings in eagerness and high expectations for next season. Together we have also been working camps. We have our final camp coming up this weekend. It is an overnight camp. These camps are fun because we spend all day teaching and coaching basketball, and we get to stay in the dorms and eat dorm food. Some people don't like to stay in the dorms, but I live off campus, and it is a fun change once in a while.
If I am not weightlifting, conditioning or playing pickup games in Wooden, I can be found in my summer classes or doing maintenance labor such as painting, shampooing carpets and tons of other exciting jobs for the Athletic Department.
As for my personal life, I don't have one! j/k =). I have spent my time skating around Westwood and hanging out with my brother Ty, who plays soccer for UCLA. When the weekends come I enjoy going home and spending time with my family. My older sister had just moved back home in June and is expecting her first child in mid-August. So I will soon become an aunt, which I am really excited about. My family and I either spend the weekend relaxing around the house or at soccer tournaments for my younger sister and brother. One weekend my sister Chantel played in San Diego, so my family and I stayed in Mexico on the beach and feasted on some lobster. Other than that, my summer has pretty much been summed up. My plans for the rest of summer involve a vacation up north to go white-water rafting and an intense amount of basketball in preparation for my final season. Well, that's about it from me so Peace Out!
