UCLA Finishes Third at Bruin Wave Invitational

The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team captured third place in the inaugural Bruin Wave Invitational Wednesday at Robinson Ranch in Santa Clarita, Calif. The Bruins lost a four-shot lead entering the day and posted a final round team score of 296 (+8) to finish with a 54-hole total of 872 (+8). Sixth-ranked USC won the event with a three-round total of 866 (+2) after posting a two-under par score of 286 in the final round. No.2 Arizona State placed second at 868 (+4). Co-host Pepperdine was fourth at 873 (+9) and Arizona finished fifth at 875 (+11). Individually for the Bruins, sophomore All-American Stephanie Kono posted a final round score of 74 (+2) and placed third at 212 (-4). Kono's scorecard had 16 pars and two bogies on it. Senior Sydnee Michaels tied for 10th place at 217 (+1) after posting a score of 73 (+1) on Wednesday. Freshman Tiffany Lua was the third Bruin to finish in the Top 20, tying for 15th place at 219 (+3) after carding a 74 (+2) in the final round. Sophomore Brianna Do tied for 33rd at 225 (+9) after signing for a 75 (+3) and junior Glory Yang tied for 45th at 229 (+13). Fourth-year junior Lalita Boonnoppornkul and freshman Stacy Kim competed as individuals. Boonnoppornkul improved 23 spots on the leader board and tied for 51st place after posting an even par 72, a career best. Kim finished 94th. Pepperdine's Danielle Kang won individual honors with an eight-under par total of 208. She posted a 72 (E) on Wednesday. For more information, click here. |
