Women's Golf Update from Colorado
Sept. 24, 2012
UCLA's second-ranked women's golf team ended its first day of tournament play by finishing tied for 15th at the Golfweek Collegiate Invitational at Red Sky Golf Club in Vail, CO.
The Bruins posted a team score of 310 (+22) after 18 holes, finishing even with Georgia State and 24 strokes back of leaders Pepperdine and Oklahoma at 286 (-2). In third place was UC Davis at 292 (+4), followed by East Tennessee State and Campbell College, tied for fourth at 298 (+10).
Individually, the Bruins were led by Swedish freshman Louise Ridderstrom, who went even on the back nine to finish with a team-best 74 (+2). Ridderstrom was good enough in her first-ever tournament appearance for UCLA to end the first round tied for 23rd on the individual leaderboard. Finishing just behind Ridderstrom was junior Ani Gulugian, who shot one-over in the last half of her day to close at 75 (+3). Senior Lee Lopez and freshman Jacquie LeMarr ended the first round with a 78 (+6) and 83 (+11), respectively. Lopez notched the first-day highlight for the Bruins, when she recorded an eagle on the 15th hole to pull within two strokes of par before playing the last three holes in three over par.
