The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team placed fifth at the annual Collegiate Match Play Championship, hosted by the National Golf Coaches Assn. at the Ginn Resort in Orlando, Fla.

UCLA defeated Auburn 4-1 in the fifth place match to complete its match play competition 2-1. The Bruins lost in a tiebreaker in Monday's first round.

Against the Tigers, the Bruins won with relative ease. Sophomore Maria Jose Uribe won 1-up against Auburn's Cydney Clanton. Senior Tiffany Joh won 3&1 against Patricia Sanz. Junior Sydnee Michaels won 5&3 vs. Mariana Macias and freshman Brianna Do defeated Madison Overbey, 4&2.

The Bruins' only loss came at No.1, where Stephanie Kono lost 3&2 to Auburn's Candace Schepperle.

Duke defeated Alabama 4-1 to win the championship and Denver beat Michigan State 3-1-1 to capture third place.
