Women's Golf Prepares for 17th Regional Challenge
Feb. 11, 2012
The 17th annual Regional Challenge will feature a 15-team field, highlighted by nine women's golf teams ranked among the nation's Top 25. UCLA, the top-ranked team in the country, headlines the list competing at the Palos Verdes Golf Club, Feb. 13-15.
The Bruins last won this tournament 2008 and also won it in 2004. A victory this week would be their fourth of the season and first in 2012.
At their most recent appearance, the Bruins finished second at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational by 12 shots to the host. That result prompted a lineup change from Coach Carrie Forsyth and she moved senior Brianna Do into the top five, replacing freshman Kyle Roig, who tied for 24th.
Do, the reigning U.S. Women's Amateur Publinks champion, placed seventh at the Wildcat event competing as an individual. She tied for eighth in the Rainbow Wahine tournament in her only start this season as a member of the top five. In nine rounds, she is averaging 72.2 with three rounds under par.
The rest of the starters remain intact: juniors Tiffany Lua and Lee Lopez, sophomore Ani Gulugian and freshman Erynne Lee. Lopez (71.4) and Lee (71.6) lead the Bruins in scoring average. Lua is close behind at 71.9.
The Palos Verdes Golf Club will play to a par of 71 over 5,912 yards.
