UCLA Earns Top Seed at NCAA Women's Golf West Regional
April 26, 2010
The No.1 ranked UCLA women's golf team earned the top seed for the NCAA West Regional, May 6-8, to be hosted at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto.
The Stanford Golf Course will play to a par of 71 over 6,212 yards. The tournament format is 54 holes of stroke play with five players counting four scores for the team competition. Twenty-four teams will battle for eight spots to advance to the NCAA Championship, May 18-21 at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, NC.
In October, the Bruins finished second at the Stanford Intercollegiate and have traditionally played well at this popular Pac-10 site.
"We're happy to be playing at the Stanford Golf Course because it's a place that we're familiar with," said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. "We've won the past two West Regionals we've played there and we won the Stanford Invitational in 2008."
The Bruins are two-time defending NCAA Central Regional champions and have won five regional championships in Forsyth's tenure. In addition, UCLA has recorded eight consecutive podium results in regional competition and has earned nine straight NCAA berths.
The Bruins won regional titles at Stanford in 2004 and 2002.
