TUCSON, Ariz. -- The University of Arizona GymCats fell to the No. 6 UCLA Bruins--defending National Champions--tonight at McKale Center in front of a crowd of 1,275 in their first Pac-10 meet of the season. Although the Cats posted a season-high score of 191.550--improving last week's score by 2.70--it was not enough to top the Bruins' score of 192.875.

Although entering the meet down two of its top competitors, Maureen Kealey and Heidi Hornbeek---both out for the season due to injuries, the Cats boasted strong outings by senior Tenli Poggemeyer--who turned in a key performance tonight in spite of a broken rib--and freshman Kara Fry, who posted four new personal bests and ended the night as Arizona's top performer.

Fry, in only her third collegiate appearance and second all-around performance, took first in the all-around with a new personal-best of 38.85, and third on the bars and floor, both with new personal-best scores of 9.85 on both events, with her floor score almost one full point higher than her previous best of 8.875. She also scored a new high on the beam with a 9.65, finishing sixth.

Poggemeyer finished second in the all-around with a 38.10 and tied for fourth on the floor with teammate Cami Banholzer with a score of 9.725. Also marking personal bests tonight were Mary Reiss, who scored a 9.35 on vault, and Lisha Stone, who scored a 9.625 on bars.

As a team, the Cats took first in only one event, the bars, where they outscored the Bruins, 48.775-48.150.
