Bruins Score Season-High In Win At Arizona
Feb. 5, 2010 UCLA posted a season-high 196.725 to easily defeat Arizona (193.8) in a dual meet in Tucson on Friday night. Bruin sophomore Vanessa Zamarripa won the all-around with a career-high 39.675 and captured first place on bars (career-high 9.95) and beam (9.95). She also picked up a season-high on floor with a 9.9. The Bruins started out the meet with a strong uneven bars set, highlighted by a career-high 9.95 from Zamarripa. Monique De La Torre earned 9.875, Brittani McCullough scored 9.85, Lichelle Wong went 9.825, and Aisha Gerber led off with a 9.775 to lead the Bruins to a team total of 49.275. Arizona started their competition on vault and scored 48.5. On vault, the Bruins received season-highs from Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs (9.925) and Anna Li (9.875), 9.875s from Tauny Frattone and Zamarripa and a 9.775 from De La Torre, for a team total of 49.325. UCLA extended its lead to 2.4 points over the Wildcats, who totaled just 47.7 on bars. In rotation three, Frattone led off on floor exercise with a 9.825. After a pair of 9.675s from Wong and Mizuki Sato, Zamarripa recorded a season-high 9.9, McCullough earned a new career-high with a 9.925, and Hopfner-Hibbs matched that mark, tying her season-best. UCLA finished floor with a 49.25 score to take a three-event total of 147.85 into the final rotation. The Bruins went into rotation four on balance beam looking to sew up a high overall team score and got a solid 48.875. De La Torre led off with a 9.575, followed by a 9.775 from Sato, a 9.725 from Gerber, and big scores from Hopfner-Hibbs (9.85) and Zamarripa (9.95) to secure the new season-high team total.
