Vanessa Zamarripa Awarded Pac-12 Special Performance of the Week
March 5, 2013
UCLA senior gymnast Vanessa Zamarripa continues to set Pac-12 records, earning her record eighth career Pac-12 Special Performance of the Week award. She also holds the record for most Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honors in a career (nine) and in a single-season (four, tied with UCLA's Kristen Maloney, 2005). Zamarripa won UCLA's only two events at Alabama last weekend, taking first place on vault with a 9.95 and on uneven bars with a 9.9. She also finished second in the all-around with a score of 38.825. Zamarripa has 17 first-place finishes on 30 routines this season, including five on vault and six on bars. She is averaging 9.825 or higher on all four events - 9.913 on vault, 9.891 on bars, 9.857 on beam and 9.829 on floor. This is Zamarripa's eighth career Special Performance of the Week award and UCLA's 22nd all-time. Oregon State's Makayla Stambaugh took Gymnast of the Week honors, and Shelby Edwards from Arizona was named the Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.
