Between the Bars
Weekly diary by Valorie Kondos Field, head coach for UCLA's women's gymnastics team.
Note: With three NCAA titles in six years, UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos Field has positioned her Bruins as the premier program in collegiate gymnastics. Not only has she consistently recruited the top talent in the world, but she has produced the results. In the past seven years alone, Kondos Field has led UCLA to three NCAA titles and one runner-up finish, six Regional titles and four Pac-10 championships. March 17, 2003 We survived to fight another day! Actually, our home meet this past weekend was great. I was actually anticipating much worse - with the flu and a minor injury bug hitting our team these past few weeks, all I cared about was getting out of the meet as healthy as we went in ... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! It was great fun seeing Christie Tedmon come into the all-around for just the second time this year (and for the first time at home) and to see Holly Murdock come in on beam (not just go exhibition). It was also nice having Yvonne Tousek back in on floor. And, whatever magic potion Kristin Parker and Malia Jones took to be able to compete after being hit hard by the flu ... we need to patent that. All in all, it was a great time. We had a great crowd the entire meet, and they were especially appreciative of our seniors during our senior recognition. It was extremely satisfying to compete well and come out of the meet healthy, especially since we are so looking forward to our final home meet, March 29th - the PAC-10 Championship! We'll be laying low and hopefullying getting a little more healthy through finals week this week. Then we're back at it on Monday, March 24th in preparation for the Championship season. Hope to see you all at PAC-10's! **** For all of you in the stands who "grrrrrrrrrrr'd" ... YOU'RE AWESOME!
Go Bruins!
