January 20, 2005

You know those times when your life consists of planning, and something unexpected happens, so you shift and replan, and then something else happens, so you shift again, replan ... etc.? That's what the last week has been. Kate's sick, Lori's out, Tedmon's sick, Walker's great, Kate's back, Lori's doing great, Peckett's sick, Tasha's sick, Jordan's got turf toe, Tasha's better, Peckett's worse... and so on and so on.

I just keep thinking ... somehow, some way we'll be O.K. for our next meet. I don't quite know how yet, but perseverance and patience can't hurt. One thing I have stopped doing is refiguring our line-up for Sunday. I figure I'll get that done Sunday morning after I get the trainer's report on who's cleared to compete.

Our last meet (our first home meet) was a lot of fun. A lot of good things happened - especially having a large contingency of students, student-athletes, and local gyms there in full force.

Without question the highlight of the meet was Lindsey Vanden Eykel's floor routine. She ROCKED Pauley - all 4'10" of her. That girl can dance! She will literally be competing on floor this weekend in true "Back by Popular Demand" fashion.

For other insight into what kind of a line-up we'll put out on Sunday ... your guess is as good as mine at this point. As long as it's not something serious, this is the fun and challenging part of the season. Let's see who's ready - emotionally, mentally, and physically - to be able to come in at the last minute and hit. That would be kind of fun - to have a meet where you drew names to see who was going up next. Interesting thought, huh? I can just see the message boards now ... "Miss Val loses her mind."

That's O.K. With the way our week is going, I should have it back by Saturday.
