February 9, 2005

So here we are halfway through the regular season. There have been really good parts and not so good parts. However, I am encouraged and excited to see what this team can do when everyone is mentally "on". The challenges we are facing this year are not unlike the ones in the past years. We have three amazing freshmen in Tasha, Jordan, and Lindsey, who are making a huge contribution to the team this year while trying to figure this college thing out. It reminds me a little of my freshman year in that Jamie, Jeanette, Yvonne, and I all were competing, came from the elite world, and it took some time for everyone to get the hang of the college world. Knowing that, it's exciting for me to be able to help in anyway I can.

Every year is different. Every team is different. However, it seems the difficulties are very similar. Since every team is different, we have a different chemistry that needs to be tweaked until the right formula is found. We are still working on trying to know everyone's competitive personalities, and that takes time. Having everyone realize the difference between playing to win instead of playing not to lose is a hard concept to grasp. We are getting there, but it will not happen overnight. The fun part of this is that it makes everyone closer. The friendship and camaraderie we develop is amazing. I look forward to the rest of the season, growing as a team with every meet, and coming together to show everyone how good we really are!

I hope to see many of you at our next home meet on Sunday!
