UCLA Women's Rowing Concludes Day One at San Diego Crew Classic

MISSION BAY, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team raced to one second-place finish and two fourth-place finishes on the first day of competition at the annual San Diego Crew Classic. The Bruins' novice eight finished second behind Washington in its race on Saturday morning.
UCLA's varsity eight raced to a fourth-place finish in the Bruins' first race of the day. UCLA posted a time of 6 minutes, 45.78 seconds, just 5.67 seconds behind first-place USC (6:40.11). Wisconsin (6:41.99) and Washington State (6:44.14) finished second and third, respectively. Miami rounded out the heat with a fifth-place finish, clocking in at 6:58.88.
The second varsity finished fourth, racing in 7:15.49. Washington raced to a first-place finish in the heat, posting a time of 6:56.90. Notre Dame (7:06.49) and Iowa (7:11.17) finished second and third, respectively, ahead of UCLA. St. Mary's College crossed the line fifth, in 7:47.17.
UCLA's novice eight posted a time of 7:22.00, just 2.55 seconds behind first-place Washington State (7:19.45). Sacramento State (7:32.17), San Diego State (7:32.76), San Diego (7:50.21), Long Beach State (8:15.58) and Pacific (8:33.25) rounded out the competition.
The Bruins return to action in day two of the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday, April 5.
