UCLA Women's Rowing Earns Top Finish at San Diego Crew Classic

MISSION BAY, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team's varsity eight raced to a first-place finish in the Petite Final on Sunday morning on the second day of competition at the annual San Diego Crew Classic. UCLA's second varsity finished third in the Petite Final, and the novice eight raced to a fourth-place finish in the Grand Final.
The varsity eight cruised to a first-place finish, posting a time of 6 minutes, 52.20 seconds. The Bruins finished ahead of second-place Iowa (6:53.77), third-place Notre Dame (7:02.39), fourth-place Miami (7:07.43), and fifth-place UC Davis (7:12.60).
UCLA's second varsity finished third in the Petite Final with a time of 7 minutes, 6.76 seconds. Washington State (6:56.70) and Iowa (7:06.43) finished first and second, respectively, in the Petite Final race. Rounding out the final three teams were San Diego State (7:12.78), Miami (7:15.37) and Sacramento State (7:17.64).
The Bruins' novice eight finished fourth, posting a time of 7 minutes, 35.96 seconds. Washington won the novice eight Grand Final race with a time of 7:16.97. Oregon State (7:18.63) finished second and Washington State (7:28.87) was third. Rounding out the group was Oklahoma (7:47.33) and USC (7:56.70).
UCLA returns to action at the Lake Natoma Challenge the weekend of April 18-19 in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
