Sept. 2, 2007

Box Score

HOUSTON - The third-ranked UCLA women's soccer team owned a 1-0 lead at the half but ended up surrendering two second-half goals in a 2-1 loss to No. 8 Texas on Sunday evening at Houston's John O'Quinn Stadium. The Bruins, who had their match with Houston on Friday cancelled due to lighting despite owning a 4-0 lead, fall to 0-1 on the season. The Longhorns move to 2-0 on the year.

UCLA struck first in the match when Lauren Cheney headed in a Lauren Wilmoth corner kick in just the 14th minute of action. Cheney also had two goals in UCLA's canceled match with Houston on Friday, however those stats will not count in the season totals.

The Bruins owned the advantage until the 53rd minute when Texas' Kasey Moore converted a penalty kick to tie the match at one apiece.

Texas notched the game winner at the 59:26 mark, as Brooke Lee headed in a corner kick that had bounced around inside the box.

UCLA outshot Texas, 9-6 on the evening. Bruin goalkeeper Valerie Henderson played the entire 90 minutes, making two saves. Freshmen Dana Wall, Kylie Wright and Lauren Barnes were all in the starting lineup.

The Bruins host the UCLA Women's Cup this weekend at Drake Stadium. UCLA faces Illinois on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

UCLA's canceled match with Houston on Friday will not be made up.
