Bruins Edge No. 23 Oregon State, 1-0
Oct. 2, 2011
LOS ANGELES - The second-ranked UCLA women's soccer team notched its third-straight shutout on Sunday afternoon, as the Bruins posted a 1-0 victory over No. 23 Oregon State in Pac-12 action at the North Athletic Field. With the win, the Bruins, who improve to 10-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-12, avenge a 3-0 loss to the Beavers suffered last season in Corvallis.
Senior forward Sydney Leroux scored the game's only goal in the 17th minute when she got endline on a run down the right side of the field after receiving a pass from freshman Caprice Dydasco. It appeared that Leroux was going to cross the ball, however she slipped it behind OSU goalkeeper Coleen Boyd and into the back of the net. The goal ended a three-game scoreless streak for Leroux, who continues to lead the Bruins in scoring with 15 points (7g, 1a).
UCLA's defense was spectacular as usual, allowing just three OSU shots on the day. It marks the team's seventh shutout in 11 matches this season. Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland played the entire 90 minutes in goal, picking up her seventh win of the season.
With the loss, Oregon State sees its record fall to 8-3-1 overall and 2-1 in Pac-12 play.
Next up for the Bruins is a match at Cal on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
