Bruins and Bears Play to Scoreless Draw

Berkeley, Calif. - The second-ranked UCLA women's soccer team opened up its Bay Area trip with a scoreless draw against Cal on Friday afternoon before 600 fans at Edwards Stadium. It marks just the second time this season that the Bruins have not come out victorious, as UCLA's record moves to 10-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Pac-12. Cal moves to 8-3-2 overall and 1-1-2 in conference action.
After being outshot 8-1 in the first half, the Bruins picked up their play the rest of the way, eventually coming back to outshoot the Bears, 16-15 in the match. Freshman Sam Mewis had a game-high five shots for UCLA.
It marks the fourth-straight shutout for the Bruins, who have surrendered just four goals in 12 matches this season. Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland had a match-high five saves, playing the entire 110 minutes in goal.
UCLA rounds out its weekend at Stanford this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The match will be a showdown between the top two teams in America, as Stanford heads into the contest ranked No. 1. The Cardinal downed USC, 3-0 on Friday.
