Bruins and Cougars Play to Scoreless Draw in Pullman
Oct. 14, 2011
Pullman, Wash. - Despite owning a 29-8 advantage in shots, the fifth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 draw with No. 25 Washington State on Friday afternoon at the Lower Soccer Field in Pullman, Wash. It marks the third tie of the season for the Bruins, who move to 10-1-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the Pac-12. The Cougars, who were able to snap a five-match losing streak against UCLA, move to 10-4-2 and 4-1-1 in conference play.
Senior forward Sydney Leroux came within inches of giving UCLA the win on Friday, however her shot in the third minute of overtime hit off the crossbar and out of harm's way. She and teammate Sam Mewis each had a game-high five shots on the afternoon.
UCLA dominated both overtime periods, owning a 9-1 advantage in shots. Freshman goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland played the entire 110 minutes in goal, making one save on the day.
The Bruins have now posted nine shutouts in 14 matches this season. UCLA has also surrendered just eight goals all year.
The Bruins will be in action again on Friday, Oct. 21, as they host Arizona at Drake Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
