Box Score

Seattle, Wash. - Lauren Cheney broke the school record for game-winning goals on Friday evening, scoring both UCLA goals in a 2-1 victory over Washington on a rainy evening at the Husky Soccer Field. With the win, the Bruins move to 16-2-1 overall and 7-1 in the Pac-10. The Huskies fall to 11-5-3 and 3-3-2 in conference play.

"I'm proud of our team's effort tonight," said UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis. "The condititons were extremely difficult, but we managed to find a way to win."

Cheney put the Bruins up 1-0 at the 6:50 mark, scoring on a shot from 10 yards out that was eventually deflected into the goal.

The Huskies answered back in the 16th minute when Veronica Perez managed to slip between a pair of Bruin defenders and sneak in a close-range shot past UCLA goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford.

That score wouldn't hold for long, as Cheney punched in her 13th goal of the year in the 25th minute on a right-footed shot to the near post after receiving a pass from Lauren Barnes.

With her 27th game-winning goal on Friday, Cheney surpasses Traci Arkenberg and Danesha Adams, who each had 26 during their time at UCLA. Cheney also moves closer to Arkenberg's school records for both points (169) and goals (71), as she now has 159 points and 66 goals.

UCLA rounds out the regular season on Sunday, facing No. 17 Washington State in Pullman at 11:00 a.m.
