LOS ANGELES - Freshman Ally Carda and sophomore Jessica Hall teamed up for a two-hit shutout in the circle, while six different Bruins had at least one hit and one run batted in, as the 14th-ranked Bruins won their 12th in a row with an 8-0, five-inning victory over Oregon State on Saturday at Easton Stadium.
UCLA improves to 25-6 overall and 2-0 in Pac-12 play, while Oregon State falls to 25-10 and 2-3 in league action.
Hall earned the win in relief to move to 12-3 on the season, striking out three in three hitless innings. She struck out two in the fifth and the only batter she allowed to reach was a hit by pitch in the fourth. Carda started and fanned one in two-plus innings, allowing two hits and two walks.
Oregon State had a good chance in its first at-bat, as Dani Gilmore singled to right and Elizabeth Santana drew a walk. But Carda got out of the jam, inducing Desiree Beltran into a third-to-first double play and popping up Paige Hall to end the threat.
UCLA scored a pair with two outs in the bottom of the first. Schroeder walked and stole second. One out later, back-to-back free passes to senior Andrea Harrison and junior B.B. Bates loaded the bases. Oregon State pitcher Tina Andreana recorded the second out of the inning on a strikeout, but Yudin followed with a single up the middle, bringing home Schroeder and Harrison to make it 2-0.
The Bruins added another with two outs in the third. Harrison walked to start the inning, but one out later was retired at second on a force play off the bat of senior Samantha Camuso. After a walk to Yudin put a pair on base, sophomore Kellie Fox singled to left to plate Camuso with UCLA's third run.
UCLA busted it open with five in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule for the 10th time this season. Camuso began the inning with her seventh home run of the season to right to make it 4-0. Yudin walked and was pinch-run for by freshman Sam Duran, who advanced to second on a Fox ground out. Back-to-back walks to senior Marti Reed and sophomore Talee Snow loaded the bases for Schroeder, who singled to right to bring in Duran and Reed to make it 6-0. Freshman Stephany LaRosa followed with a single to left to plate Snow with the Bruins' seventh run. Then Bates ended it, singling to right to score Schroeder with the mercy-rule tally.
