In the bottom of the first, the Gators got one back. Michelle Moultrie was hit by a pitch to start things off, moved to second on a sacrifice by Aja Paculba and advanced to third on a grounder to second by Kelsey Bruder. After a walk to Brittany Schutte put runners at the corners, Megan Bush singled to left to plate Moultrie to make it 2-1.
Florida evened the score in the second. Kerr got the first two outs of the inning on strikeouts, but then on a bunt attempt by Fagan, threw the ball wild to first to allow the runner to reach. Fagan then stole second and came home on a single up the middle by Moultrie to tie the game at two.

The Gators added another run in their half of the fifth. With one out, Paculba and Bruder had back-to-back singles to left. After Schutte grounded out to first for the second out, with both runners moving up, Paculba scored on a wild pitch when Macon threw an intentional ball away during a free pass to Bush.

But Rogers got junior Samantha Camuso and senior Grace Murray on back-to-back groundouts to end the inning. Murray, who was making her first collegiate appearance behind the plate with her first two career at-bats, was playing in place of Tiumalu, who left the game in the second inning with a right leg injury.
