BRUINS HEAD TO VEGAS FOR EASTON DESERT CLASSIC
The 18th-ranked Bruins head to the Easton Desert Classic this weekend, with four games in Henderson, Nev. at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park and a Friday night contest at UNLV's Eller Media Stadium against #20 Hawai'i. UCLA also faces San Jose State and Seattle University on Saturday and Louisiana-Monroe and Ohio on Sunday. ON DECK
The Bruins host the Toyota Women's Softball Team in an exhibition contest at Easton Stadium at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Admission is free of charge. UCLA then heads to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City next weekend. The Bruins face fourth-ranked Tennessee on Friday, Feb. 22 (3:30 p.m.), Maryland (12 p.m.) and Oklahoma State (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Feb. 23 and #10 LSU (9 a.m.) and Nevada (11:30 a.m.) on Sunday, Feb. 24.

BRUINS IN THE POLLS
The Bruins jumped up one spot to 18th in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and remained at 19th in this week's USA Today/NFCA rankings. UCLA earned 18 additional points in the USA Softball poll and eight more points in the NFCA rankings. The Bruins received 28 points and were ranked seventh in the preseason Pac-12 Coaches poll.

SCOUTING THE OHIO BOBCATS
After dropping their opening game of the season to Towson at the ECU Pirate Classic, the Bobcats finished the weekend with four wins over East Carolina (twice), Cleveland State and Rider. Ohio hit .280 as a team last weekend with eight home runs and nine stolen bases, averaging 5.6 runs per game. Senior catcher/infielder Lauren Gellerman posted a .533 average (8-for-15) with three homers and eight RBI, while five others batted over .300. In the circle, sophomore Kaylin Clarke had a 0.81 ERA and five strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings, while freshman Savannah Jo Dorsey went 2-1 with a 2.40 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 11 2/33 innings. Jodi Hermanek is in her fifth season at Ohio and has a record of 100-110 to go with a 207-232-1 mark in eight-plus years of coaching. The Bruins and the Bobcats have played once before, as UCLA won 9-1 in five innings on March 24, 2011 at Easton.

SCOUTING THE HAWAI'I RAINBOW WAHINE
The Rainbow Wahine went 5-1 last weekend in their home tournament, splitting a pair of contests with #16 Washington and defeating Mississippi (twice), UAB and Saint Mary's. Hawai'i hit just .191 as a team with a homer and nine stolen bases, averaging 3.0 runs per game. Junior outfielder/catcher Sharla Kliebenstein hit .333 (5-for-15) with three RBI, while sophomore catcher/first base Kayla Wartner batted .313 (5-for-16). In the circle, senior Kaia Parnaby was 3-1 with a 0.66 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings, while freshman Keiki Carlos was 2-0 with a 2.71 ERA and four strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings. Bob Coolen is in his 22nd year at Hawai'i and has a record of 803-455-1 to go with an 875-549-1 mark in 26-plus seasons of coaching. The Bruins lead the all-time series with the Rainbow Wahine 13-4, including the last two, with the last matchup coming at the Women's College World Series (June 4, 2010 - 5-2).

SCOUTING THE SAN JOSE STATE SPARTANS
The Spartans went 4-2 last weekend at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., defeating Portland State, Cal State Northridge, New Mexico and Cal Poly, while falling to Oregon and Oregon State. San Jose State hit .319 as a team last weekend with two homers and nine stolen bases, averaging 5.2 runs per game. Eight different players batted over .300, led by senior Markesha Collins, who went 9-for-16 (.563) with a homer and three RBI. Senior Cheryl Freitas was 6-for-13 (.462) with a homer and five RBI, while senior Vanessa House went 8-for-19 (.421) with one RBI. Four different pitchers saw action, with senior Amanda Pridmore tossing 22 2/3 innings and striking out 18 with a 3-2 record and a 4.37 ERA. Peter Turner is in his seventh year at San Jose State and has a record of 153-190. The Bruins have never lost to the Spartans in 10 games, with the last matchup coming at Easton Stadium on March 4, 2006. UCLA defeated SJSU in a doubleheader, 8-0 in five innings and 8-2.

SCOUTING THE SEATTLE UNIVERSITY REDHAWKS
The Redhawks began the year in St. George, Utah, dropping their first contest against BYU, but bouncing back with wins over Oklahoma State, Southern Utah, Utah and Weber State. Seattle hit .284 as a team last weekend with one homer and seven stolen bases, averaging 4.0 runs per game. Five players hit over .300, led by freshman Brittney Lott's .500 (5-for-10) average with two RBI. Freshman Isabella Geronimo (.438, 7-for-16) added three RBI and senior Rogin Hardy (6-for-14, .429) posted a homer and four RBI. In the circle, three pitchers saw action, with junior Richelle Ashburn starting three contests, posting a 2-1 record and a 3.11 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 18 innings. Dan Powers is in his 10th year at the helm of the Redhawks and is 231-209. Saturday's matchup is the first ever between the Bruins and the Redhawks.

SCOUTING THE LOUISIANA-MONROE WARHAWKS
The Warhawks went 3-1 at their home tournament last weekend, defeating Grambling State, Southeast Missouri State and Wichita State, while falling to UC Santa Barbara. Louisiana-Monroe hit .292 as a team with two homers and 11 stolen bases, averaging 4.3 runs per game. Sophomore Mackenzie Miller had six hits in seven at-bats (.857) with five stolen bases. Freshmen Faith Bohack hit .538 (7-for-13) with three RBI and Kayla Prater went .500 (4-for-8) with a homer and four RBI. Junior Stephanie Routzon did not allow an earned run in 10 innings, striking out seven in a pair of victories. Rosemary Holloway-Hill is in her 29th year at ULM and has a record of 709-895-3. The Bruins and the Warhawks have met just twice, with the last meeting occurring on Feb. 1, 2002 at Easton Stadium, as UCLA won 8-0 in five innings.
