UCLA Named NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year
July 2, 2010
The UCLA coaching staff of head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez, assistant coaches Lisa Fernandez and Gina Vecchione and volunteer assistant Natasha Watley have been named the 2010 National Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
It is the second time the Bruin staff has been named NFCA National CSOY, also earning the honor in the national championship season of 2004 with Sue Enquist at the helm. Inouye-Perez, Fernandez (volunteer) and Vecchione were all assistants with that team.
The Bruins were also awarded West Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors. It is the second time for that honor for UCLA. In 2000, while Inouye-Perez, Fernandez (volunteer) and Vecchione were assistants under Enquist, the Bruins were named the NFCA Regional CSOY for the Pacific Region.
UCLA went 50-11 this season and won its 12th softball national title and 11th NCAA championship. The Bruins swept through the postseason with a 10-0 record, going 5-0 at the Women's College World Series and 2-0 in the WCWS finals against Pac-10 rival Arizona. Megan Langenfeld was named WCWS Most Outstanding Player and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Samantha Camuso and Andrea Harrison.
