Swimming & Diving Notches Two Wins In Final Home Dual Meets

The UCLA seniors were sent off in style on Friday as the #23 swimming and diving team defeated Washington State and Boise State in the final home dual meets of the season. The Bruins defeated Washington State 166-90 and Boise State 169-106 to improve to 9-1 on the year (3-1 Pac-10).
During the meet, UCLA posted nine event wins, three event sweeps and 18 season-bests marks. Today marked the final home meet for seven swimmers - Brittany Beauchan, Lindsey Buchbinder, Lauren Hall, Carly Lyons, Dani Milligan, Alex Sullivan and Sam Vanden Berge. The two senior divers, Laura Winnn and Karina Silva, end their home careers on Sunday after the completion of the Bruin Diving Invitational.
UCLA started off the day with a win in the 200 medley relay as Emily Andelson, Kelsey Louden, Yasi Jahanshahi and Ting Quah swam 1:44.10. Vanden Berge won in the 1000 free with a solid time of 10:08.91. Quah finished first in the 200 free with a season-best swim of 1:49.95. She was just .73 seconds shy of the NCAA B cut in the event.
Beauchan was first in the 100 breast (1:02.67), while Jahanshahi was the top finisher in the 200 fly (1:58.88) as she continued her unbeaten streak in the 200 distance in dual meets.
In three-meter action, Haley McNamara was second (257.70), while Silva was third (250.58).
Andelson was the top finisher in the 200 back with a season-best swim of 2:01.44. Louden led a Bruin sweep in the 100 breast, placing first with a time of 2:18.79. Jahanshahi led the third Bruin sweep, this time in the 500 free, as she was first with a time of 4:53.46.
The Bruins will be off from competition for a few weeks and will then head to NorCal for the Stanford (Jan. 28) and Cal (Jan. 29) dual meets.
