Bruin Swimmers Have Fast First Day at Texas Invite

The UCLA swimmers had a strong start to the Texas Invitational in Austin on Thursday evening as the Bruins tallied two lifetime-best swims, 10 season-best times and 10 NCAA "B" qualifying marks on day one of the meet.

The 200 free relay team started off the night with a ninth-place swim as Kathryn Murphy, Jesse Bergman, Bianca Casciari and Madison Fitzgerald swam a "B" time of 1:32.13.

Lauren Baker then posted almost a 10 second season-best in the 500 free as she was 22nd in the C Final with a time of 4:52.45.

The 100 fly was a big event for the Bruins as all four women competing in the finals posted season-bests and NCAA "B" marks. Yasi Jahanshahi led the way as she was 13th in the B Final with a time of 53.58. In the C Final, Stephanie Christofferson was 18th (53.89), Casciari was 19th (54.08) and Anna Senko was 20th (54.55).

In the 200 IM, Laurence Delisle had a big swim as she was the only Bruin in an A Final. Delisle finished seventh overall with a season-best time of 2:00.86. She swam 2:00.60 in the prelims. Andrea Reigel finished 18th in the C Final as she posted a season and lifetime-best swim of 2:00.46.

Murphy led the Bruins in the 50 free as she was 22nd in the C Final with a time of 23.24. She swam a season-best of 23.03 in the prelims. In the E Final, Bergman finished 34th with a season and lifetime-best swim of 23.28.

The 400 medley relay team capped off the night with a season-best and NCAA "B" qualifier of 3:42.32. That team was comprised of Reigel, Emily Weir, Jahanshahi and Casciari.

Competition continues on Friday in Austin for day two of the Texas Invite.
