Bruins Qualify for ITA National Team Indoors
Jan. 28, 2012
LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team booked it's place in next month's USTA/ITA National Team Indoors on Saturday, registering a 4-0 victory over St. Mary's during ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA (3-0) will be one of 16 teams competing in the national event, which runs from Feb. 10-13 in Charlottesville, Va. Straight-set singles wins from freshmen Robin Anderson, Kaitlin Ray and Chanelle Van Nguyen were the difference on Saturday for the Bruins, who also won the doubles point following a pair of 8-2 and 8-1 wins at court Nos. 1 and 3, respectively. Anderson, who actually trailed in the third set of her match yesterday against Utah's Anastasia Putilina, had little trouble against St. Mary's top player Catherine Isip, winning 6-2, 6-2. Van Nguyen also improved to 3-0 as a Bruin, winning 6-3, 6-0 over Carla Lindlar at court No. 6, while Ray dropped just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Catherine Leduc at court No. 4. UCLA's three singles wins were key for the Bruins, who were trailing on court Nos. 2 and 4 when play was suspended. Pamela Montez had also just split sets at court No. 3. UCLA hosts LMU next Thursday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
