Bruins Down Waves, 5-2 in Malibu

Malibu, Calif. - The third-ranked UCLA women's tennis team survived its first road test of the 2009 season on Wednesday, posting a 5-2 victory over Pepperdine at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. UCLA (4-0) won the doubles point with victories on court Nos. 1 and 3. Pepperdine's lone doubles win came at court No. 2, however the Bruins had already secured the point by then. The Bruins cruised in singles, taking three straight wins to take an insurmountable 4-0 lead. The match was clinched at court No. 2 where Yasmin Schnack recovered from a tough first set to come back and lose just one game en route to a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Alexandria Walters. UCLA also had singles wins from Andrea Remynse (court No. 1), Maya Johansson (court No. 3) and Carling Seguso (court No. 5). UCLA is in action again tomorrow, hosting UC Irvine at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
