LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 2 ranked UCLA women's tennis team opened a two-day homestand by sweeping No. 75 ranked Loyola Marymount, 7-0, today at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the victory UCLA improved to 4-1 overall while LMU dropped to 1-2 on the season.

UCLA breezed through five of the six singles matches and the only doubles match completed to post the 7-0 victory. First off the courts was Elizabeth Schmidt who did not drop a game as she defeated Lia Bunker 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 position. Kelly Rudolph followed suit with an identical score over Laura Gross on court No. 4. Both Kati Kocsis and Brandi Freudenberg each dropped only one game as they posted 6-1, 6-0 wins over Milica Cukulic and Amy Labetich in the Nos. 3 and 5 slots, respectively. On court No. 1, Annica Cooper registered a 6- 0, 6-2 win over Mara Colaizzi.

All eyes turned to court No. 6 where UCLA's Alyson Gray and LMU's Jacque Haas did battle. Haas claimed the first set 6-3, but Gray battled back to win the second 7-6 then proceeded to win the match 6-1 in the third. With these players scheduled to take different courts in doubles, only the No. 2 doubles match could be started early and thus was the only doubles action completed before the rain began. UCLA's team of Schmidt and Rudolph defeated LMU's Gross and Bunker 8-0 for the final team score.

The Bruins depth continued to show today as injuries have three players sidelined. Amanda Basica, slated to take over the top singles position this season, suffered a shoulder injury in the fall and has yet to make her dual match debut. Katia Roubanova, who has been recovering from a stress injury in her foot, is scheduled to return to action tomorrow against USC. Cristina Popescu, who is recovering from a muscle strain suffered on Jan. 23, was also rested today.

The homestand continues for UCLA tomorrow as the Bruins host cross-town rival USC, ranked No. 25, in a 1:30 p.m. Pac-10 Conference match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Admission to UCLA's home tennis matches is free. Here are today's position-by-position results: Singles
