The No. 12 ranked UCLA women's tennis team escaped a 0-3 trip to the USTA/ITA Women's National Indoor Team Championship in Madison on Saturday in convincing fashion, as the Bruins pummelled South Alabama 8-1. The win improves UCLA to 6-3, while South Alabama falls to 3-4.
Annica Cooper beat Lenka Jakubekova in the No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1. Cooper was playing in place of UCLA'a usual No.1 player Amanda Basica, who is out with a shopulder injury.
The No. 1 singles duo of Katia Roubanova and Elizabeth Schmidt beat USA's Tracey Gobey and Melanie Pieterse 9-8.
UCLA returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 28 against UNLV at noon at the LATC.
