LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The No. 2 ranked UCLA women's tennis team defeated No. 63 ranked Boise State University, 8-1, today at UCLA's Sunset Recreation Courts. With the victory UCLA improved to 8-4 overall while Boise State evened its record at 5-5.
UCLA won five singles matches, with all six being completed in straight sets, and swept doubles play en route to the 8-1 victory. The only UCLA loss came at No. 2 singles where Boise State's Gayleen McManus defeated the Bruins' Cristina Popescu 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 1 singles, Annica Cooper continued to excel as she posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Manon Buskens, improving her record to 11-1 in dual matches and a team-high 21-5 overall. At No. 3 singles, Elizabeth Schmidt got back on track as she posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Pia Lena Ander to end a six-match drought. Schmidt and doubles partner Katia Roubanova, who recently returned from an injury, also returned to the win column in the No. 1 doubles slot.
The Bruins travel across town to face rival USC, ranked No. 25, on Saturday, Mar. 7 at 1:30 p.m. Following that always competitive match, UCLA flies to Austin, Texas where the Bruins will play at fourth ranked Texas on Monday, Mar. 9 at Noon.
Boise State will play at USC on Thursday, Mar. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
